The Wicker Part Fine Art Fair will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 10-6 at the Wicker Park Community Gardens at 1425 N. Damen Avenue, Chicago, IL 60622 in Wicker Park – The Park. This event will include a curated group of fine artists displaying and selling their work, artworks installed in the gardens (The Garden As Gallery), performances of classical music, hands on family art workshops, and tours of the Gardens and the Garden As Gallery installations in them. The Tour will encourage dialogue and education. After the Tours, participants can the visit the artists who participated in the designs of the Garden Galleries at their tents to view and purchase artwork.
The Garden As Gallery will feature artworks installed in the gardens. Some of the artists who are chosen to participate in the Fine Arts Fair will be asked to collaborate with the Doug Wood, the Garden Designer, and Maria Mariottini, the Fair Coordinator on creating art installations in the gardens. These garden galleries will enhance the relationship between the art works and the garden design in which they are installed. In addition, the garden galleries will bring new insight to the relationship between art and nature.
The Wicker Park Fine Art Fair springs from the Garden as Inspiration Series (2020-present) which uses the garden as a source for noticing and exploring visual information and then bringing the garden to the work of the students. The series includes classes focusing on Still Life, Collage, Watercolor Painting, and Drawing. The Wicker Part Fine Art Fair is sponsored by the Wicker Park Garden Club working in collaborations with the Chicago Park District.
The Wicker Park Garden Club (501c3 since 1988) has Designed, Funded and Maintained the Gardens in the Park since 1988 in partnership with the Chicago Park District. The Gardens occupy 10,000 square feet and features sustainable and native plants designed to provide four season interest to park patrons. Each year, annual plants, bulbs, and other tender plants are added to the design in the warm months. The gardens provide an environment rich for birds, beneficial insects and pollinators. All interested gardeners are invited to attend weekly garden tending days where they will learn both horticultural and design techniques that they can then use in their own gardens.
Applications will be open in March.
