The first Wicker Park Fine Art Fair will include a curated group of fine artists displaying and selling their work, artwork installed in the gardens (the Garden as Gallery), performances of classical music, hands-on family art workshops, and tours of the gardens. The Wicker Part Fine Art Fair is sponsored by the Wicker Park Garden Club working in collaboration with the Chicago Park District.

The Wicker Park Fine Art Fair springs from a series of art classes called the Garden as Inspiration (2020-present), which uses the garden as a source for noticing and exploring visual information. The classes have included still life painting, collage, watercolor painting, and drawing. See the class schedule here

The Garden as Gallery

Some of the participating artists will be asked to collaborate with garden designer Doug Wood and fair coordinator Maria Mariottini to create art specifically for installation among the gardens. These garden galleries will provide a unique environment to enjoy the art, as well bring new insight to the relationship between art and nature.

The Wicker Park Garden Club (501c3 since 1988) has designed, maintained, and funded the gardens in the park since 1988 in partnership with the Chicago Park District. The gardens occupy 10,000 square feet and feature sustainable and native plants designed to provide four-season interest to park visitors. Each year, annual plants, bulbs, and other tender plants are added to the design in the warm months. The gardens provide an environment rich for birds, beneficial insects, and pollinators. All interested gardeners are invited to attend weekly garden tending days where they will learn both horticultural and design techniques that they can then use in their own gardens. Sign up to participate here.
